Limitations of the media as a medium of informal education.

Limitations of the media.

Limitations of the media as a medium of informal education.

Four media can be mentioned as a medium of education - radio, television, newspapers and films. In addition, social media has emerged as one of the mainstream media. Although the media has various positive aspects, it also has some limitations. The limitations of the media as a medium of education are -

1. Lack of neutrality: -
Currently, the various news published by the media are politically biased in many cases. Due to political, economic or any other reason, most of the media houses are presenting biased news. As a result, the people are being deprived of real news. In many cases, distorted presentation of social events is taking place.

2. Imposed public opinion: -
Public opinion is being misguided due to biased news. Political parties, corporate houses are using the media for their own interests and influencing public opinion in a particular direction. This imposed public opinion is negatively affecting national policies and programs and endangering democracy.

3. Dependency on electricity : -
Except for newspapers, all other types of media are electricity dependent. As a result, people in areas where there is no electricity cannot enjoy the benefits of the media. As a result, they fall behind the prevailing social ideology.

4. Commercialism in films: -
Nowadays, many films are being made for commercial purposes, which instead of educating the public are misleading the public. Unnecessary violence, sexuality, presentation of women as sex products - these things make the mind of the audience antisocial and distorted. In most cases, films are deviating from their educational role.

5. Excess of advertising: -
In many cases, the media is run on advertising. But now the rate of advertising in the media has increased so much that real news or programs have been neglected. In addition, excessive advertising shortens the scope of newspapers and television; the space and time for presenting news are reduced.

6. Yellow journalism:-
Currently, many journalists are competing to present news in an entertaining manner instead of presenting real news to increase the popularity of newspapers or TV channels. This yellow journalism is against the ideals of journalism and the viewers, readers and listeners are the ones who are suffering the most.

7. Lack of educational programs:-
Currently, almost every media house is a member of the corporate world. As a result, very few educational programs are being broadcast in every media. All media are currently busy to satisfying the entertainment needs of people. As a result, media is being used only as a medium of entertainment in the current period.

8. The lure of glamour, money and fame:-
Internet-based social media deeply affects the minds of children and teenagers. Instead of gaining experience, knowledge, information collection from social media, etc., social media is giving them a terrible lure by showing the lure of establishment and money. Childhood and adolescence are being corrupted. Students have forgotten real life and are addicted to the silver screen.

9. Imitation: -
Many students consider the dark world, violence, sex, drug use - shown in movies, social media, etc. as modernity and want to imitate these habits. As a result, the future role of students as the backbone of the nation is facing a terrible question mark.

10. Wasting time: -
Many students waste hours after hours in the pursuit of pleasure through social media, movies, etc. As a result, on the one hand, their education is disrupted, on the other hand, they prefer to live in a world of fantasy, ignoring real problems.

Finally, it can be said that the role of media as a medium of informal education is immense. But it is necessary to be familiar with its negative aspects and be careful before using media.
