Violence against women.
Organized violence against women:-
Violence against women is prevalent in different societies in different ways. Even in the present era, women have not been completely freed from organized violence against them. The main reason for organizing violence against women is the maintenance of patriarchal control and distorted mentality in the society. Although the situation has changed somewhat due to various movements, various laws and various social reforms aimed at improving the status of women, organized violence against women has not stopped completely. The various forms of organized violence against women are -
1. Domestic violence:-
Among the organized violence against women, the most notable is domestic violence. In most cases, domestic violence is not reported - so it is not possible to provide accurate statistics about it. In most families, women are denied their freedom. Hard work, physical abuse - these become their daily habits. There is no remedy for this type of domestic violence.
2. Violent behavior related to dowry: -
Although the dowry system has been banned by law, in many cases the dowry system is still prevalent. Almost every day, news of bride murder due to dowry is seen in the news headlines. In many cases, even though dowry is not taken at the time of marriage, dowry is demanded after marriage on various pretexts. If the bride cannot pay the dowry as demanded by the groom, severe physical and mental torture is inflicted on the bride. In many cases, this torture even goes as far as bride murder. Although dowry was declared illegal in 1961, women have not been completely freed from its evil effects.
3. Killing of female fetuses and infanticide: -
Today, determining the sex of the fetus in the womb is a punishable crime. But still, in many cases, the sex of the fetus is being determined by some dishonest means and in many cases, if the fetus is a girl, it is being destroyed. Apart from feticide, female infanticide, sending the mother along with the daughter to her ancestral house or driving her out of the house after giving birth to a girl child, etc. are still happening today. Due to this large number of female fetuses and female children being killed, the balance in the ratio of women to men is being destroyed.
4. Sexual violence: -
Rape, molestation - all these sexual violence are in the headlines of the newspapers every day. In addition, many cases of molestation occur which are not made public. The number of such incidents is high. The National Crime Record Bureau has mentioned that there were 24,923 cases of rape and 45,351 cases of molestation in 2012. This type of sexual violence devastates women both physically and mentally. In many cases, due to lack of sufficient evidence, the culprits are getting away with it due to the loopholes in the law. Such incidents are increasing day by day due to the lack of exemplary punishment for the culprits.
5. Abduction and Trafficking in Women:-
National Crime Record Bureau has provided information on 38262 cases of abduction of women in 2012. The issues of abduction of women and trafficking in women are related to each other. Women are abducted mainly for two reasons - to fulfill perverted desires and for trafficking in women. After abduction, women are sold to brothels in different cities. It is not possible for women to come out of this dark world and in some cases, even if women are rescued, their families abandon these women due to social reasons. This is an unfortunate behavior against women.
6. Violent behavior towards minors:-
Currently, the incidents of sexual abuse against minors are increasing gradually. Sexual abuse against minors is happening by close or distant relatives, neighbors, teachers or tutors and even male family members. In many cases, minors are unable to tell anyone about the injustice done to them and in most cases they are intimidated into not telling anyone.
7. Violent behavior towards working women:-
Working women have to face various violent behaviors in the workplace. In cases of maintaining a job or promotion, women are easily turned into sexual commodities. Taking advantage of job offers, opportunities to work in movies or television, and many other helpless situations, women are turned into sex slaves. In addition, various perverted behaviors of male colleagues at work always terrify women.
8. Other Violent Behaviors: -
In addition to the above violent behaviors against women, other violent behaviors are - sexual violence during war, forced abortion, obscene gestures and molestation on the road - on the train - on the bus, sexual harassment by rioters, forced marriage, forced prostitution, honor killings - etc.
Finally, it can be said that violent behaviors against women have been going on since ancient times. In modern times, various laws have been made to stop these violent behaviors, but they have not been proven to be effective. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure awareness of women in this regard, spread of special education, social protection, and effective legislation.
