Discuss the importance of Pavlov's Classical Conditioning Theory in learning.

Importance or significance of Pavlov's Classical Conditioning Theory in Education.

Importance of Pavlov's Classical Conditioning Theory in learning.

Pavlov’s Classical Conditioning Theory can be used for the learning of human children and a few animals. The educational implications of this theory are –

1. Language learning:-
Classical Conditioning Theory plays a special role in children's language learning. When teaching language to a child, pointing to a particular object or person and repeating a particular word over and over again, that word becomes associated with the object and becomes meaningful to the child. That is, the word is added to the child's vocabulary. For example, if you point to a woman and say the word 'grandma' repeatedly, that woman becomes a grandmother to the child. The word grandmother was meaningless to the child before the proper conditioning occurred. But by repeatedly associating the word grandmother with the woman, the child imitates and the word grandmother becomes meaningful to the child.

2. Learning a child :-
The effect of Classical Conditioning Theory can be seen in the learning of the child, especially in the learning of letters, words, names etc.

3. Habit Formation :-
Classical Conditioning Theory has a special contribution to habit formation. For this reason, conditioning techniques are used to develop a habit in a child. The influence of Classical Conditioning Theory can also be observed in the formation of habits in adults.

4. Elimination of bad habits:-
Classical Conditioning techniques are used to eliminate undesirable habits such as spelling mistakes, pronunciation of vulgar words, punctuation errors etc.

5. Projective development:-
Classical Conditioning helps in visual development. Complex conflicts in human life are the result of conditioning. The prevalence of stimuli in agitation is due to classical conditioning.

6. Creating interest or disinterest in the child:-
In class learning - a student's interest or disinterest in various subjects is the result of Classical Conditioning . In many cases the likes and dislikes of a teacher are closely related to the subject he or she teaches. Teachers should be very careful about this.

7. Teacher's behavior and Classical Conditioning :-
Respect, love, fear, hate etc. for the teachers, their behavior, clothes, habits etc. are followed by the students. The behavior, habits, behavior of the teachers in or outside the classroom should be such that appropriate habits can be developed in the students through Classical Conditioning .

8. Behavioral changes:-
The Classical Conditioning Theory can be used to modify a child's behavior to guide him or her toward desirable and acceptable behaviors. If the child refrains from the daily habits such as bathing, brushing teeth, sitting to read, etc., then the child's behavior can be changed very easily by applying the Classical Conditioning Theory .

Define unemployment. Unemployment Increases Poverty in Rural and Urban Areas - Critical Analysis

Relation between unemployment and poverty.

How unemployment causes poverty?

Concept and Definition of Unemployment :-

In general, unemployed refers to a person who, despite having the ability and desire to earn, is deprived of gainful employment.

From a sociological point of view, persons who are employable, have the ability to get employed , have the desire to get employed , have been trying to get employed ; but involuntarily separated from gainful employment is said to be unemployed.

According to D. Mali, unemployment refers to a situation where a person is deprived of employment for wages despite his willingness and ability to work.

From the above definition and discussion, several elements or conditions of unemployment are observed -
A person can be said to be unemployed when -
1. The person should be active to get a job.
2. The person will have a desire to get a job.
3. The individual will tend to find work through his diligence.

Relationship of unemployment with increase in poverty in rural and urban India:-

4.4% of people in rural India and 5.7% in urban areas are victims of unemployment. There are characteristic differences between rural and urban areas with unemployment.
But correlation exists between population, poverty, illiteracy and unemployment. The relationship is shown in a diagram.

Correlation of unemployment with poverty in rural areas:-

1. Farming in India is constantly decreasing. As a result, people's income from agriculture is decreasing. This problem is becoming more complex with the subsequent growth of population. Even today about 65% of people in India are directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture. As a result, unemployment in the agricultural sector is increasing along with the amount of poverty in rural areas.

2. At present most of the agricultural lands in India are being cultivated with modern machinery. As a result, the employment opportunities for landless farmers have narrowed. At present the per capita agricultural holdings are less than three acres.

3. Nowadays, agricultural products have become an unprofitable business. Every year many farmers commit suicide for not getting the price of their crops. This unemployment in the agricultural sector is pushing up India's overall poverty curve.

4. Due to lack of proper implementation of various government schemes in rural areas, the unemployment rate is increasing. Although there is a 100-day work guarantee policy, there are many problems in implementing it. As a result, unemployment and poverty are increasing simultaneously.

5. India has a high rate of illiteracy in rural areas. So due to illiteracy , a certain number of people are suffering unemployment which is directly increasing poverty.

Correlation of Poverty with Unemployment in Urban Areas :-

1. Although urban areas have higher literacy rates, a certain segment of the population fails to engage in productivity due to lack of effective vocational training. As a result, the number of educated unemployed in urban areas is increasing significantly.

2. One-sidedness of qualification in urban areas is increasing the problem of unemployment which is one of the reasons for increasing poverty in urban areas. Due to the presence of more number of doctors and engineers than required, it is also causing unemployment problem.

3. Educated people in urban areas tend to be more engaged in manual work. People in urban areas are more motivated to take up jobs or similar activities. As a result, there is a problem in finding employment, which is one of the reasons for the increase in urban poverty.

4. Industrial and market fluctuations in urban areas, labor unrest, strikes, lock-outs, political apathy etc. act as obstacles to employment in urban areas. This results in unemployment in urban areas which has a profound impact on urban poverty.

5. Factors such as financial recession, inflation, layoffs, etc. directly affect the unemployment rate in urban areas. As a result, poverty increases exponentially. Also, government policies, globalization, economic liberalization - etc. also increase unemployment and poverty in urban areas.

Finally, even though there is a characteristic difference between unemployment and poverty in rural and urban India, as a direct result, the rate of unemployment increases in both. The subsequent increase in unemployment rate is encouraging the growth of poverty. There is an inextricable relationship between unemployment and poverty in both rural and urban India.

Discuss marriage as a social institution.

Significance of marriage as a social institution.

Discuss marriage as a social institution.

Significance of marriage as a social institution.

Marriage is an institution. The institution called marriage turns man and woman into husband and wife. It is through marriage that the relationship between man and woman becomes a family by gaining social legitimacy and recognition and approval. In other words, the marriage solemnized between husband and wife expresses the validity of their special relationship.

According to Molinowski, marriage is not only a license to have sex, it is actually a recognition of parentage.

According to philosopher Will Durant, marriage is not just a license for sexual relations, but a parent-child relationship whose social significance is to protect and strengthen the nation.

According to Anderson and Parker, marriage is a socially recognized permanent bond between one or more men and one or more women that authorizes sexual intercourse for the purpose of parenthood.

Kingsley Davies calls this legitimacy or recognition of the child as ‘’Principles of legitimacy.’’

According to Wester Mark, marriage is more than a regulated sexual act.

Thus, marriage is a social institution - which is universal, which places more importance on the formation and maintenance of a family and the fulfillment of social responsibilities and duties - etc.

Marriage as a Social Institution :-

Marriage is considered as the primary unit of family formation. Marriage, therefore, is a fundamental social institution. Marriage as a social institution has multiple roles present in society. For example –

1. The marriage system provides a healthy and specific way to satisfy the sexual needs of individuals. The satisfaction of sexual needs keeps the physical and mental development of the individual.

2. The marriage system eliminates the danger of sexual adultery and disorder in social life.

3.  The family is the unit of society and the family is created by marriage. The bond between husband and wife and their families become legitimate and recognized by marriage.

4. The main purpose of marriage is to procreate by creating a family. By this the new born child gains his social legitimacy. By this the line of heredity continues.

5. Not only the birth of a child, but its proper rearing, education, socialization etc. requires the permanent union of child and parents - which is fixed by marriage.

6. Marriage is a special emotional bond between husband and wife. It is from this bond that the feelings of love - emotion - affection - sympathy - cooperation etc. are created between husband and wife and their children.

7. Marriage provides physical and emotional satisfaction to the individual as well as social and emotional security to both.

8. The marriage system gives a definite form to the relationship between man and woman in the larger social life.

9. In married life, an atmosphere of financial cooperation is created between husband and wife. Besides, marriage facilitates division of family labor based on gender.

10. In a patriarchal society a woman's identity is determined by the identity of her father or husband. A woman's social identity and social status in married life depend largely on whom she marries. That is, the role of marriage in determining the social identity of women at a certain age of marriage.

11. Marriage is not only the union of a man and a woman, it is the union of at least two families. Various kinship relationships are formed based on this. Thus the basis of social cohesion is strengthened.

12. One of the most important aspects of marriage in every religion is that it is a special religious ceremony. Moreover, the social importance of marriage is present in the practice of religion together by husband and wife. According to Gandhiji - Marriage is the fence that protects religion.

Thus, marriage between men and women can fulfill their social needs. The institution called marriage is maintaining the basic structure of the society and protecting the stability and progress of the society through mutual matching between husband and wife, child reproduction and upbringing, social responsibilities and duties. For all these reasons, sociologists call marriage a basic social institution.
