Comparative discussion of formal education and informal education.

Difference between formal education and informal education:-

The differences between formal and informal education are -

1. Control:-
All the elements are completely controlled in formal education. They are controlled by the individual, society or the state. But nothing is controlled in informal education.

2. Curriculum:-
In formal education, the presence of a specific and well-planned curriculum can be observed. But in informal education, the concept of curriculum is absent.

3. Duration:-
The duration of formal education is specific. Generally, one year is considered as the ideal period for teaching a class. But in informal education, there is no such specific time period.

4. Specific age:-
In formal education, there is a specific age for admission to each class. But in informal education, people get the opportunity to learn from the environment and society from birth to death.

5. Teacher:-
All types of formal education are conducted by qualified teachers. Teaching, evaluation - everything is conducted by teachers. But in informal education, the student learns according to his own needs and demands. Here the teacher is indefinite; again, in some cases, he is absent.

6. Objectives and goals: -
The main goal of formal education is the all-round development of the student. The main task of formal education is to satisfy all kinds of needs of the student - vocational, intellectual, social, democratic, cultural. But informal education does not have any such specific goal. Here, the individual receives education according to his own needs, demands and capabilities.

7. Financial matters: -
In formal education, a lot of money is spent on various aspects such as school management, textbooks, examinations - etc. The expenses are borne by the state or the student. However, in informal education, there is no question of expenditure or even if there is an expenditure, it is negligible.

8. Discipline: -
In formal education, discipline is strictly maintained. Various measures are taken to prevent any disorderly matter. But in informal education, the student learns independently. Therefore, the question of discipline is meaningless here.

9. Structure:-
Formal education is a statutory organization. Formal educational institutions are formed and run by the state, society or individuals. All the organizations that govern formal education are interrelated. But in informal education, the issues are absent.

10. Teaching method:-
The teaching method of formal education is statutory. In formal education, the teacher acts as a bridge between the student and the curriculum. Both theoretical and practical methods are followed in teaching. But in informal education, the principle of self-learning is followed.

11. Evaluation:-
An integral part of the formal education system is evaluation. The knowledge and skills acquired by the student are checked through evaluation. But in informal education, evaluation does not exist.
