Difference between evaluation and measurement.
There are differences between evaluation and measurement in various aspects. The differences between evaluation and measurement are -
1. Difference in scope: -
The scope of evaluation is wide. Through evaluation, various aspects such as the overall skills, characteristics, interests, attention, talents - etc. of a person can be measured. But the scope of measurement is much narrower than that of evaluation. Through measurement, a special characteristic, ability or skill of a person is measured. Different measurements are used to test different abilities.
2. Difference in characteristics: -
The characteristics of evaluation are manifold. Through evaluation, all kinds of characteristics of a person can be measured. But through measurement, the knowledge acquired by an individual in a particular subject can be measured. Therefore, the scope of measurement is relatively less.
3. Difference in nature: -
Through the evaluation process, the overall personality of the individual can be measured. The evaluation process is essential in the measurement of personality. But the nature of measurement is partial. With the help of measurement, the features of personality of the individual can be examined in different ways.
4. Difference in process: -
Evaluation is a continuous process. The evaluation process is quite effective in measuring the continuous and uninterrupted development of the student. But measurement is a discrete process. Special tests are prepared in special cases to measure the knowledge or mental ability of the student through measurement.
5. Difference in time: -
Since the scope and process of evaluation are extensive, more time is required to conduct the evaluation process. Sufficient time is required to evaluate all the characteristics of the individual. But the time is relatively less in measurement. Since the measurement process is carried out differently and separately - therefore, it requires relatively less time.
6. Difference in measurement: -
Through evaluation, all aspects of the individual's intellectual, physical, visual, aesthetic, mental - etc. can be measured. But with the help of measurement, only the intellectual and physical development of the individual can be measured.
7. Functional difference: -
The evaluation process is quantitative and qualitative both. But the measurement process is only quantitative.
8. Difference in goals and objectives: -
The evaluation process is always based on the objectives of education. Through evaluation, the main goals of education can be fulfilled. On the other hand, the goals and objectives of measurement are limited in scope. The goal of evaluation is multifaceted; but the goal of measurement is one-sided.
9. Difference in time - scope: -
Through the evaluation process, it helps to practice and measure the constantly changing growth and development of the student. But measurement is a temporary process. It is known through measurement how much progress a student has made in terms of knowledge in a particular subject at a particular time.
10. Difference between decision-making and final status determination:-
Evaluation is the final decision-making or final status determination of a subject. On the other hand, measurement is the determination of a specific part of knowledge or current mental abilities and skills - etc.
