Difference between Guidance and Teaching.

Difference between Guidance and Teaching :-

1. Difference in antiquity:-
The subject of teaching is very ancient. The teaching process was prevalent in almost all ancient civilizations. But the subject of guidance is quite new. The guidance process was introduced scientifically and systematically from the very beginning of the twentieth century.

2. Difference in scope:-
The scope of guidance is much wider than that of teaching. The guidance process can be conducted on any subject. But the teaching process is limited to a specific problem or subject.

3. Difference in results:-
There is no specific method or unit to know how effective the guidance process is. It can only be estimated by following the follow-up method. But there are various evaluation, testing, etc. methods to judge the results of the teaching  - through which the results of the teaching process can be clearly known.

4. Difference in terms of compulsion: -
During the guidance, instructions are never imposed on the person. It is up to the person to accept instructions or not. But the teaching or learning process is mostly compulsory and in this case the student has no freedom of will.

5. Difference in terms of strictness: -
Considerable flexibility is adopted in the guidance process. In presenting his/her own statement and while giving instructions, importance is given to the freedom of the person, interest, skills, etc. But in the teaching process, relatively strictness is adopted. In this case, the student has to follow the instructions.

6. Difference in terms of number of people: -
The guidance can be conducted with both individual and group members. But the traditional teaching is usually conducted in groups.

7. Difference in terms of management: -
Any experienced and skilled person can conduct the guidance process. But the teaching process is usually carried out by the teacher.

8. Developmental differences: -
The guidance affects the overall thinking, skills and personality of the person. In this case, the adaptive development of the person occurs. But in the case of teaching, the person is enriched with information by acquiring formal knowledge; therefore, in this case, the intellectual development of the person is achieved.

9. Difference in process: -
Both the processes of guidance and teaching are conducted by specific levels and programs. However, the levels and programs of management of both the processes are different. In guidance, the stages of understanding the problem, judging the ability and skills of the person, giving instructions, follow up, etc. are followed. On the other hand, in teaching, the stages of presenting the content, practicing, evaluating, etc. are followed.

10. Difference in information provision: -
In the guidance process, information is provided on multiple topics. For example, educational information, vocational information, health-related information, information related to aging, information on socialization, information on eliminating bad habits and anti-social activities, etc. But in the teaching process, information is provided only on the syllabus and subject matter.

11. Difference in time frame: -
There is no specific time frame for the guidance. Guidance is needed at different stages of a person's life. Therefore, the guidance process is carried out from the birth of a person to his death. But the teaching  process has a specific time frame. Teaching is started at a specific time and completed at a specific time.
