Concept and features of essay-type examination:-


Essay-type examination is a type of examination in which essay-based answers can be given, the student has complete freedom in writing the answer and the student has the opportunity to express his own views. In this type of examination, the student can express his thoughts and ideas in detail about a specific subject or topic. The features of essay-based examination are -

1. Independence is the main feature of essay-type examinations. In this type of examination, the student gets the opportunity to freely express his thoughts, experiences, ideas, etc. about the subject while answering. The student has complete freedom to express basic statements in accordance with his experience.

2. Since the student has complete freedom in answering in essay-type examinations, many times students tend to give irrelevant answers while answering. Therefore, irrelevance in answering is one of the characteristics of essay-type tests.


3. In essay-type tests, the answers must be essay-based and detailed. Essay-based answers are essential for the complete expression of the student's experience about the subject.

4. Only through essay-based tests can the student's creativity be fully expressed. The student's basic knowledge is revealed while answering.

5. Essay-type tests are a type of teacher-made tests. The teacher creates the question paper for the test and evaluates the answer paper.

6. There is no specific standardized method for evaluating the answers or determining the quality of the answers. The teacher evaluates the answer paper according to his experience and skills. As a result, the personal influence of the teacher can be observed in this type of test.

7. Only through essay-based tests can the student's knowledge of language and language skills develop. Since the essay-type examination provides the opportunity for the student to express his overall experience, the student's language skills develop in expressing that experience in detail.

8. The student's thinking and reasoning skills can be measured through the essay-type examination. The student expresses a specific topic or problem through his own logic, language knowledge, etc. The student's insight increases with continuous practice.

9. The essay-based examination is a type of traditional examination. In preparing this type of examination paper, the teacher does not have to do excessive research and the student's knowledge focused on a specific problem is tested.

10. The principle of overall curriculum-centeredness is not followed in the essay-based examination. The student's knowledge and skills are measured by presenting only a few topics or problems from the entire curriculum to the student.
