Disadvantages of Informal Education.

Limitations of Informal Education.

Informal education is an important part of human life and the role of informal education in human life cannot be denied in any way. Whatever a person learns outside of formal education from birth to death is informal education. But informal education is not completely free from defects and limitations. The limitations of informal education are -

1. Lack of teachers:-
Lack of suitable teachers is a major drawback of informal education. A suitable teacher acts as a bridge between the student and a subject or course and makes the subject easy and simple for the student. As a result, it becomes easy for the student to experience a subject or problem. But there is no such opportunity in informal education.

2. Lack of suitable curriculum:-
A suitable curriculum guides the student's education in a specific scientific way. The student's knowledge becomes well-organized and well-controlled. But since there is no curriculum in informal education, it is not possible to direct the education of the student in a specific way.

3. Lack of evaluation: -
Assessment reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the student to the teacher, on the other hand, the student can also identify his strengths and weaknesses. But since there is no evaluation in informal education, there is no such opportunity.

4. Lack of certificates: -
Since informal education is not institutional, there is no certificate after obtaining education. But the importance of certificates in real life is immense. Certificates are required in all fields, such as the world of professions , government jobs, etc. Due to the lack of certificates, the knowledge of the student is not recognized.

5. Lack of credibility: -
Although informal education enriches the life of the student, there is also a great lack of informal education in real life. Only institutional education is accepted in real society. Since informal education is learned by the student himself - the credibility of that education is not recognized till date.

6. Lack of acceptance: -
Informal education takes place without a specific teacher, curriculum, assessment - etc. and since informal education is not institutionalized - the acceptance of informal education is low. For example, even if a student acquires postgraduate knowledge in a specific subject in an informal manner, he has no acceptance in society, workplace and education.

7. Bad effects of observation and imitation: -
Informal education is conducted only by observation and imitation. Therefore, in informal education, instead of acquiring knowledge, in many cases the student only learns to imitate and cannot be familiar with the subject as a whole. As a result, the student's knowledge remains incomplete.

8. Not suitable for the overall development of the child: -
The overall development of a student requires the development of various matters - mental, moral, social, cognitive, intellectual, cultural, vocational - etc. Informal education cannot adequately develop the above needs of the child.

9. Incomplete experience:-
In informal education, the child's experience is incomplete. He does not get the opportunity to gain knowledge in depth. In informal education, the student is familiar with some basic knowledge only by imitation; but due to the lack of teachers, curriculum, textbooks, etc., he has to be satisfied with accumulating incomplete experience.

10. Not suitable for social change:-
Russian thinker and philosopher V. I. Lenin called education a tool for social change. But in informal education, the student acquires some immediate and incomplete knowledge based on his needs. Informal education is not effective in learning about the dynamics of society, various social ideals, the methods of social change, the economic and political life of the nation, etc.

Finally, it can be said that although informal education has some limitations, its importance in the life of the student cannot be denied. On the other hand, formal education is not also above criticism. Therefore, a combination of formal and informal education is needed for the all-round development of the student.
