Educational significance of operant conditioning:-

The proponent of the theory of operant conditioning is psychologist Skinner. This type of conditioning is basically operant; that is, it does not have a specific stimulus. The main purpose of this type of conditioning is to lead the animal towards appropriate behavior through multiple interrelated behaviors and to correct the behavior. Operant conditioning is voluntary and the activity of the animal is essential in this case. In operant conditioning, emphasis is placed on motivation and reward. The educational significance of operant conditioning is -

1. Creation of motivation: -
Through operant conditioning, it is possible to create desired behavior in the student and show him a purposeful path. Operant conditioning creates motivation in the student to move towards a specific behavior.

2. In the formation of activity in the student: -
Operant conditioning is mainly based on the principle of obtaining results. Therefore, operant conditioning creates motivation in the student and operant conditioning is particularly effective in forming activity in them.

3. In creating goal-oriented behavior: -
The process of operant conditioning creates goal-oriented behavior in the student. The student is guided by motivation and moves towards goal-oriented behavior. The main reason for this goal-oriented behavior is attraction to results.

4. In the case of behavior specification: -
According to the principle of operant conditioning, the student moves forward by specifying one or one type of behavior from among many behaviors to obtain a specific result. In this way, the student's behavior can be specified through operant conditioning.

5. To eliminate unwanted behavior: -
Through operant conditioning, the student's unwanted behaviors can be eliminated by specifying behavior in the student. Without separating these unwanted behaviors, it is not possible for the student to take the right steps towards a specific goal. As a result, through operant conditioning, the student's undesirable behaviors are eliminated and he is helped to achieve the goal.

6. In the development of the student's personality: -
The development of the student's personality occurs in the context of specific goal-oriented behavior. Operant conditioning helps to develop the student's personality by motivating goal-oriented behavior in the student. According to the principle of operant conditioning, the student participates in learning and a multifaceted personality develops in him.

7. Helpful in learning: -
One of the conditions for learning is active behavior. The student participates in various types of learning through active behavior. The student is influenced by the results of all these active behaviors. In this way, the operant conditioning process helps in learning.

8. Helpful in planned learning or program learning: -
The inventor of the program learning method is Skinner. According to this method, the text is divided into small parts and presented to the student. These small parts are called frames. At the end of each frame, there are specific topic-based questions. The student answers those questions himself and goes to the next frame. In this way, children can learn on their own through program learning, based on the operant conditioning.
