Difference between formal education and non-formal education.

Difference between formal education and non-formal education:-

1. Difference in terms of control:-
Formal education is completely controlled. Strict control is seen in all areas of curriculum, teaching, evaluation, etc. But although non-formal education is controlled, it is not strictly controlled like controlled education. In non-formal education, the student gets enough freedom in all areas of curriculum selection, participation in learning, evaluation, etc.

2. Difference in terms of the role of the teacher:-
Formal education is largely conducted by qualified teachers. In the case of teaching and learning in the classroom, the student is completely dependent on the teacher. In this case, the teacher plays the role of a bridge between the curriculum and the student. But in non-formal education, the role of the teacher is negligible. In this case, the student has to learn by himself.

3. Difference in curriculum:-
In formal education, students do not have such freedom in choosing the curriculum. Students have to follow a pre-planned curriculum mechanically. But in non-formal education, students enjoy considerable freedom in choosing the curriculum. In non-formal education, students can choose the curriculum of their choice from a variety of different curricula.

4. Difference in evaluation:-
In formal education, evaluation is conducted in a disciplined and strict manner. Students are forced to participate in the predetermined evaluation process. But in non-formal education, students can participate in the evaluation process by dividing the curriculum into different parts as per their convenience.

5. Difference in age limit:-
In formal education, the age limit is fixed in advance. A specific age is required for a specific class. But in non-formal education, there is no restriction on the age limit. Students can participate in the education process at any age.

6. Institutional Differences:-
For each center of formal education, there is a specific school building. But there is no separate school building for non-formal education; usually, non-formal education is conducted in formal education institutions.

7. Differences in Financial Matters:-
Formal education is quite expensive. In various areas, teachers, construction of school buildings and infrastructure development, textbooks, etc. are spent on various aspects. But non-formal education is comparatively less expensive. In this case, the educational process is conducted with part-time teachers, no money is spent on construction and management of school buildings. As a result, the cost of non-formal education is quite low.

8. Differences in the number of students:-
In formal education, the number of students is limited. A certain number of students are admitted in each formal educational institution. But any number of students can participate in non-formal education.

9. Structural Differences:-
Formal education is fully organized. In this case, each level of education is related to each other. But non-formal education is not as organized as formal education and in this case, there is no mutual relationship between the levels of education.

10. Difference in teaching method:-
In formal education, teaching is conducted on the basis of interaction between the teacher and the student. The student can directly acquire knowledge about the subject from the teacher and the teacher can get feedback from the students. But in non-formal education, a direct relationship between the teacher and the student is not possible.

11. Organizational difference:-
The main organization of formal education is the school. On the other hand, the two organizations of non-formal education are - distance education and open education.

12. Difference in Objective :-
The main objective of formal education is the all-round development of the student. For this purpose, formal education is conducted with specific goals. But the main objective of non-formal education is to provide opportunities for out-of-school students to receive education, increase opportunities for higher education - etc.

Limitations of formal or controlled education.

Disadvantages of formal education.

Limitations of formal or controlled education:-

In modern times, the usefulness and acceptability of formal or controlled education is unquestionable all over the world. The importance of formal education in the overall development of a child is immense. Formal education introduces the child to various elements of the social and natural environment, helps in developing good habits, and helps in socialization and adaptation. But formal education is not above criticism. The various limitations of formal education have been discussed.

1. Teacher Dependency:-
Formal education is completely dependent on the teacher. The teacher presents the subjects in front of the student at each educational level. In this case, the student has to follow the path indicated by the teacher. The student does not have such freedom in acquiring knowledge.

2. Imposed curriculum:-
In formal education, the curriculum is completely imposed. Here, there is no room for the student's will or unwillingness. The student can choose the curriculum of his choice; but that is only at the higher education level. In formal education, students are forced to participate in a predetermined curriculum.

3. Limited to the school only: -
Formal education is limited to the four walls of the school. He is introduced to the larger society and international life only through the curriculum and textbooks. This type of system creates obstacles in the way of the student's independent acquisition of knowledge.

4. Evaluation and Test-oriented: -
In formal education, the qualifications and standards of the student are evaluated only through tests and examinations. It is not possible to properly evaluate the many talents hidden in the student through tests. If he does not perform well in the tests, he is not considered an ideal student.

5. Financial issues: -
The financial aspect is one of the main problems in the management of formal education. Huge money is required for the construction and management of school buildings, infrastructure development, recruitment and remuneration of qualified teachers, evaluation and instruction - etc.

6. Lack of vocational education: -
The main goal of formal education is the all-round development of the student. Although the vocational development of the student is one of the goals of formal education, the amount of vocational education provided is by no means sufficient for success in the world of profession.

7. Irrelevant to reality: -
One of the main complaints against formal education is that formal education is incompatible with real life. The kind of education that a student receives in school cannot be helpful to the student in the workplace and in terms of productivity.

LIST OF ALL NOTES / PROJECTS : CLICK HERE

8. Unvaried: -
Although co-curricular arrangements are provided in formal education, the curriculum is given maximum importance in the workplace. As a result, co-curricular activities do not play such a role in the educational field. On the other hand, a traditional and unvaried curriculum discourages the student from school.

9. Student's problems: -
In regulated education, there are many students of different talents in a classroom. As a result, all students cannot be united in all areas of the curriculum, teaching instructions, etc. at the same time. Some move forward, while others lag behind.

10. Evaluation method is not psychologically approved:-
In many areas of formal education, the evaluation method is not properly psychological and scientific. The main purpose of evaluation is to test the knowledge acquired by the student on a particular subject. But the testing method of formal education has become a process of presenting information today.

11. Compatibility problem:-
The student can only grasp the subjects included in the curriculum through textbooks. But he cannot be aware of the latest thinking, research, recent trends in the subject, etc. on that subject.

12. Artificial environment:-
Formal education is conducted in an artificial environment. Here the student has to artificially attend school and participate in the class . As a result, many students cannot adapt to the learning process and gradually they become discouraged about education.

13. Narrowness:-
Formal education is narrow in nature. Students acquire knowledge only within the four walls of the school, depending on the teacher and the curriculum. In formal education, textbook knowledge is given too much importance instead of experience, practical application of knowledge, etc.

14. Strictness:-
Every element of formal education is strictly controlled. There is no room for indiscipline. Strictness can be observed in all areas such as school attendance, evaluation, participation in reading and writing - etc. As a result, students often gasp in this mechanical and strict environment.

15. Transportation problems:-
If the institute of formal education, i.e. schools, is far away from the student's residence, then students face problems in traveling to school. This problem is multiplied many times for students in remote areas.

Finally, it can be said that although there are many problems with formal education, it has not been possible to invent an alternative system to it so far. Therefore, if effective steps are taken to address the above problems, formal education can become largely error-free.

Limitations of the media as a medium of informal education.

Limitations of the media.

Limitations of the media as a medium of informal education.

Four media can be mentioned as a medium of education - radio, television, newspapers and films. In addition, social media has emerged as one of the mainstream media. Although the media has various positive aspects, it also has some limitations. The limitations of the media as a medium of education are -

1. Lack of neutrality: -
Currently, the various news published by the media are politically biased in many cases. Due to political, economic or any other reason, most of the media houses are presenting biased news. As a result, the people are being deprived of real news. In many cases, distorted presentation of social events is taking place.

2. Imposed public opinion: -
Public opinion is being misguided due to biased news. Political parties, corporate houses are using the media for their own interests and influencing public opinion in a particular direction. This imposed public opinion is negatively affecting national policies and programs and endangering democracy.

3. Dependency on electricity : -
Except for newspapers, all other types of media are electricity dependent. As a result, people in areas where there is no electricity cannot enjoy the benefits of the media. As a result, they fall behind the prevailing social ideology.

4. Commercialism in films: -
Nowadays, many films are being made for commercial purposes, which instead of educating the public are misleading the public. Unnecessary violence, sexuality, presentation of women as sex products - these things make the mind of the audience antisocial and distorted. In most cases, films are deviating from their educational role.

5. Excess of advertising: -
In many cases, the media is run on advertising. But now the rate of advertising in the media has increased so much that real news or programs have been neglected. In addition, excessive advertising shortens the scope of newspapers and television; the space and time for presenting news are reduced.

6. Yellow journalism:-
Currently, many journalists are competing to present news in an entertaining manner instead of presenting real news to increase the popularity of newspapers or TV channels. This yellow journalism is against the ideals of journalism and the viewers, readers and listeners are the ones who are suffering the most.

7. Lack of educational programs:-
Currently, almost every media house is a member of the corporate world. As a result, very few educational programs are being broadcast in every media. All media are currently busy to satisfying the entertainment needs of people. As a result, media is being used only as a medium of entertainment in the current period.

8. The lure of glamour, money and fame:-
Internet-based social media deeply affects the minds of children and teenagers. Instead of gaining experience, knowledge, information collection from social media, etc., social media is giving them a terrible lure by showing the lure of establishment and money. Childhood and adolescence are being corrupted. Students have forgotten real life and are addicted to the silver screen.

9. Imitation: -
Many students consider the dark world, violence, sex, drug use - shown in movies, social media, etc. as modernity and want to imitate these habits. As a result, the future role of students as the backbone of the nation is facing a terrible question mark.

10. Wasting time: -
Many students waste hours after hours in the pursuit of pleasure through social media, movies, etc. As a result, on the one hand, their education is disrupted, on the other hand, they prefer to live in a world of fantasy, ignoring real problems.

Finally, it can be said that the role of media as a medium of informal education is immense. But it is necessary to be familiar with its negative aspects and be careful before using media.

Comparative discussion of formal education and informal education.

Difference between formal education and informal education:-

The differences between formal and informal education are -

1. Control:-
All the elements are completely controlled in formal education. They are controlled by the individual, society or the state. But nothing is controlled in informal education.

2. Curriculum:-
In formal education, the presence of a specific and well-planned curriculum can be observed. But in informal education, the concept of curriculum is absent.

3. Duration:-
The duration of formal education is specific. Generally, one year is considered as the ideal period for teaching a class. But in informal education, there is no such specific time period.

4. Specific age:-

What is informal education? Discuss the features of informal education.

Definition and characteristics of informal education.

Concept / definition of informal education:-

Informal education refers to the lack of control over the various elements of education. The four main means of modern education are - students, teachers, curriculum and schools. In informal education, no one - institution, individual and state - directly controls these four elements of education. That is, informal education is the type of education that can be organized in individual life without any control.

Educationist Coombs said that whatever education a person acquires without control is informal education.

Characteristics / features of informal education:-

The features of informal education are -

1. Uncontrollability:-
The main characteristic of informal education is uncontrollability. Here the student learns from his environment, society, institutions, etc. in an uncontrolled manner. Even, there is no control over what the student learns and his evaluation, etc.

2. Lifelong process: -
Formal education is organized up to a certain age limit. But informal education is a lifelong process. People learn from their environment and society from birth to death and develop intellectually through that experience.

LIST OF ALL NOTES / PROJECTS : CLICK HERE

3. Absence of curriculum: -
In informal education, the presence of any specific curriculum cannot be observed. In this case, everything in the society and environment of a person is a part of his curriculum. In this case, people can select subjects according to their needs and demands.

4. No need for a teacher: -
In informal education, the presence of a teacher is unnecessary. Here people learn by themselves and play the role of a teacher themselves. Generally, family, media, group of friends, various institutions, nature, etc. are the main means of informal education.

5. Unplanned:-
In informal education , nothing is pre-planned or well-thought-out. Here, people learn from society and their environment. Therefore, there is no room for pre-planning in informal education. People learn instantly according to their needs.

6. Absence of textbooks:-
Since there is no curriculum in informal education, the presence of a specific textbook is also not observed. People select textbooks here according to their needs.

7. Absence of evaluation and testing:-
In informal education, the presence of any institutional tests and evaluation is not observed. People use their experiences to develop themselves and increase their excellence.

8. Absence of specific educational levels:-
In formal education, there are specific educational levels. A student passes from one class to another. But in informal education, the presence of such educational levels is not observed. In this case, the student can independently acquire knowledge in any subject according to his needs.

9. Freedom:-
Informal education is almost free. Here the student gets education according to his/her own ability and needs. The student enjoys complete freedom in all areas like subject selection, learning, education planning, setting educational goals, etc.

10. Absence of artificiality :-
Informal education is natural education without artificiality. Unlike formal education, nothing is artificially imposed on the student here. In informal education , students get education independently and naturally according to their needs.
