Definition, characteristics and importance of social groups.

Discuss the definition and characteristics and importance of social groups.

What is a social group ? What are the features of social groups ?

Importance of social groups.

Definition of Social Group :-

Regarding the definition of social group, Professor Bottomore says –
"Social group is a group of individuals who - 1. between which there is a definite correlation and 2. All of whom are aware of group life and its symbolic forms.

According to McIver and Page,
By social group we mean a collection of individuals related to each other in specific social relationships. Here groups are the interrelationships of individuals.

According to Geisbert,
A social group is a group of people interacting with each other and having a recognized organization.

According to Bogardus,
When several people have similar objectives and are responsive to each other and perform similar activities out of a common responsibility, it is called a social group.

That is, to be a social group - 1. Must have more than one member, 2. There must be correlation between its members.
So we can say that when two or more people are organized in a mutually established manner, it is called a group or social group.

Characteristics / Features of Social Groups:-

1. Aggregation of individuals :- A social group is an aggregate of individuals. Groups cannot be formed without individuals. Individuals are units of groups. Group formation requires the interaction of individuals. That is, individuals are collectively considered as groups when they are included in the interaction.

2. Interrelationship of Individuals :- Any collection of individuals alone is not called a group. Interaction between group members is essential to group formation. It forms the basis of the group. According to sociologists, this relationship does not always have to be physical, it can be emotional as well.

3. Mutual understanding:- A mutual cooperation, companionship and exchange of feelings can be observed among the members of the social group.

4. Group Consciousness :- A kind of consciousness is awakened in the mind of the members of the group by which he finds his relation with his group. He realizes that he is not isolated; He is part of a larger whole. This group consciousness helps the person to be cooperative and empathetic towards others. This group spirit inculcates team spirit among individual members and this attitude gives precedence to group interest over individual interest.

5. ‘’We - Sense’’ :- This sense works among members of a group that we belong to the same group or share the same common life. This sense separates group members from other group members. Naturally, the identity of the group is created from the We feeling. We are all in one, we are all for each other - this mindset of group members is very helpful in group formation and preservation. With such an attitude, physical intimacy often becomes secondary.

6. Unity and Solidarity :- The members of the group are bound by a bond of unity. Group solidarity is born from this unity. This solidarity or sense of unity teaches and motivates members to respond to each other's appeals. This unity and cohesion within the group binds the members together.

7. Common Purpose :- Interests and ideals of group members are similar. A person belongs to a group only when his interests are the same as those of others in that group. Thus a common purpose is seen among group members.

8. Uniform behavior and way of life :- Members of a group have common interests or needs and as they are interrelated, they strive jointly to satisfy those needs. Thus it can be seen that their behavior is also identical. It is from this behavioral similarity that they become partakers of a common way of life.

9. Rules :- Every group has some rules. Group members generally adhere to them or are sometimes obligated to adhere to them. The group directly or indirectly pressures its members to conform to them. If the individual does not comply with these even on his own, he is dismissed from the group.

10. Group Size :- Can be both small and large. Groups can be made up of just two people, while millions of people can make up a single group. For example, husband and wife form a group called family. A political party is also a group which may have millions of members.

11. Group is dynamic :- Group is not static. Its size, shape, membership, purpose, functions etc. change. As group members die on one side, new members are born on the other. Again, its change can be observed under the influence of an external force.

12. Permanence :- Group is pretty much a permanent organization. However, there are some groups whose objectives are limited, they disappear when the objectives are fulfilled in a short period of time. In this context it is said that collective living requires some long-term stability or continuity. Otherwise, the group does not form.

13. Property :- Every group has some property. But property does not mean only material things. They can also be emotional and spiritual. Buildings, money, flags, particular ideologies etc. are considered property of the group.

14. Personality Factors :- Individual's personality is discovered and developed within the group. That is, the group directly or indirectly affects the individual's personality.

Importance of Social Groups:-

Group life is one of the foundations of human society. The position, structure, continuity and change of society depend on the functioning of groups. An individual from birth to death i.e. his entire life course flows through the group. It is here that he finds recognition and transcendence as a 'social organism'. Without inclusion in group life, the individual cannot meet his daily needs, nor can he withdraw from society. So he has to be a member of multiple groups starting from family to clubs, organizations, friendship groups, professional organizations etc. It is through these that the individual finds his social wholeness. However, the importance of social groups can be reviewed as follows.

1. Human survival without a group is extremely difficult if not impossible. Because, people get the opportunity to sustain their existence, pursue various interests and fulfill their goals only through groups.

2. Man cannot change from an animal to a social being without a social environment. He becomes socialized through socialization and this socialization takes place with the help of various groups. That is, it is groups that make the individual "man" and develop his social character. So it is said that Man only becomes man among men.

3. Group life is part of social life. It is an integral part of social life. The members of the group have mutual relations, and the web of these mutual relations is the society. Therefore, not only the existence of the individual, but also the existence of the society depends on the group.

4. The group instills in its members a kind of group consciousness, whereby the individual realizes that he is not alone in the world, but part of a whole. Thus the group provides assurance and security in the mind of the individual about its existence.

5. Group rules are current. Group members generally adhere to these. The group compels its members to do so if the individual does not want to do so voluntarily. In this way the individual learns to conform to the rules by being included in the group life.

6. A group attitude operates among group members. This attitude awakens respect, sympathy, love, kindness, compassion etc. in the person. In other words, such expression of human qualities and emotions is the product of group life.

7. The group fulfills its objectives through various institutions. These institutions are of various types. So it is said that the structure of social institutions is created by groups.

8. Groups play an active role in personality formation. Personality refers to an integrated pattern of physical and mental characteristics of a person. A person's personality with these characteristics is formed and developed within the group.

9. Within the group the individual acquires and applies its cultural elements. Our clan is the bearer and bearer of our culture.

10. Finally, it can be said that the overall identity of the individual is carried by his group.

Relationship between Education and Sociology:-

Discuss the relation between Education and Sociology.

How Education and Sociology are interdependent ?

The relation between Education and Sociology .

Education and Sociology are interdependent. Various theories and data of social science have had a special influence on various elements of education and have had a significant impact on the modern education system and the overall education system. In fact, the progress of both individuals and society is impossible without education in the process of effective adaptation to the change and transformation of social life.

Individual, Society and Sociology in Education:-
A person's useful adaptive capacity is a result of biology, but that adaptive capacity cannot be made useful to society by disregarding the principles of social relations. Therefore, the valuable influence of various principles of sociology as a practicing science of social relations in education should never be neglected. Modern sociology has a close relationship with education as it lays special emphasis on the characteristic interactions and mutual social relations between different elements of society.
The development of the learner in the social background through education is taken as the ultimate goal and the interaction of the various elements of education with the learner in realizing this goal is considered meaningful and valuable.

Integrated Forms of Education and Sociology:-
In the era of modern child-centred education, the integration of all conflicting ideas in the field of education has been embodied in reality. In this 21st century integrated education system, the contribution of sociology like psychology, biology etc. is equally important. It is undeniable that when the state of human thought changes due to the influence of different eras, the change in social outlook also takes place and this change in outlook has an equal impact on the boundaries of education.
Similarly, the clash of conflicting ideas of the 20th century in the field of education resulted in the form of coherent education and in this form of education, the contribution of social science, which practices social relations like other social sciences, is no less.

Meaning, Significance of Education and relation with society :-
If the impact of sociology on various aspects of education can be determined more clearly, it will be possible to reveal the close relationship between sociology and education. We do not understand education today as the imposition of knowledge on the learner at the will of an adult. Education in the modern sense is the various experiences that people accumulate in a life-long process till death.
In the modern education of this experience man can never neglect the norms of mutual social relations. And this is where education is a social process and a science closely related to sociology. It is on the basis of this close relationship with sociology that education works to preserve the society, transforms the cultural environment of the society and engages itself as a significant means of social progress. So the meaning and significance of modern education is well founded on the theory of sociology.

Aims of Education and Sociology:-
The influence of social science in determining the goals of education is also obvious. In short, the goal of modern education is to make education person-oriented and the learner social-oriented. Both individual and societal needs are equally important in determining this goal of modern education. In a word, the aim of modern education is a coherent and integrated form of the aims of individualistic and socialist education.
A society in which this combination of education is possible is a democratic society in the words of the educator Dewey. The special type of education introduced in this social system helps to develop in each individual a sense of self-interest in all social relations and social control and provides motivation to develop a social personality in each individual. The reflection of the social perspective is also evident in the Mudaliyar Commission's setting of educational goals.

Sociology and curriculum  :-
The influence of social science is equally evident not only in determining the aims of education but also in designing the curriculum of modern education. These principles of curriculum design reflect the sociological perspective so clearly that in modern education curriculum is seen not only as a collection of subjects - it is seen as a collection of experiences provided by the school. Here the integrated form of the student's personal needs and his various social needs can be observed.
In the educational system of the present world, the curriculum is designed in such a way that two factors play a very important role behind it - one is the nature or natural interest of the child and the other is social necessity. And the importance of social needs in curriculum is the influence of social science. So the curriculum planning of modern education is dependent on the principles and theories of sociology.

Pedagogy and Sociology:-
The influence of sociology in curriculum planning is important such as; The impact of sociology on the modern education system cannot be ignored as well. At present, the main point of education is to help students gain experience by increasing self-activity. As a complement to this principle of self-activity, the principle of work-centered learning has been adopted in education today. Such a method of education is now called scientific and dynamic which is able to be taught through work.
The underlying theory and principles behind these work-centered learning methods are that they motivate people to work cooperatively, increase their cooperative spirit, and help develop social skills, competence, and other interpersonal qualities. So the principles of the modern work-centred education system are based on the theories and principles of sociology.

School Organization, Management and Sociology:-
The impact of social science on the school organization system in modern education is very clear and important. School is considered a miniature version of society and according to educator Dewey, it is the real simplified and harmonized society.
Not only in terms of organization, but also in fulfilling social responsibility, school work is significant. In fact, the contribution of schools to the socialization of students embodies the influence of sociology. The social responsibility of the school is very significant in the preservation of society, transmission of socio-culture and development of society.
Moreover, different social organizations other than schools also act as mediums of education and schools have to fulfill their responsibilities on the basis of mutual social relations with them. Thus it appears that in modern education the influence of sociology in the organization of schools, in determining the duties of schools, and in determining the relation of schools to other social educational institutions, is particularly characteristic.

Duties, Responsibilities of Modern Teacher and Social Sciences :-
The changes that have been made about the duties and responsibilities of the modern teacher are more or less centered on the principles and theories of sociology. In modern education a teacher is the student's friend, philosopher and guide. In this work, the teacher has to understand the principles of mutual good relationship in a scientific way if he is to be a good practitioner.

Brown states that the teacher himself will acquire knowledge and take on the role of director in their processual use of social relations. The impact of sociology on this changing awareness of the teacher's responsibilities and duties is obvious.

Human Relations and Sociology in Education:-
Finally, in modern education, special importance is given to the development and growth of human relations and the social interactions of student , teacher, headmaster parents etc. are highly valued in the educational process. Here too the influence of social science exists. The above system of determining human relations embodies the influence of sociology through the application of social strategies in education.

It can be concluded that various principles and theories of social science have particularly influenced various elements of education. Therefore, scientific analysis of the nature of modern education without considering the principles and theories of social science is impossible and any such attempt is an illusory attempt.

Which factors are responsible for social change ?

Factors of Social Change.

Elements of Social Change.

Factors of Social Change.

Social change is a complex social process. This change in society takes place through various elements. So no single factor is responsible for social change. Different types of elements are effective in different societies. Again, in terms of country and time, the material can change; As a result, many variations can be observed in the field of social change. So it cannot be said in a word that social change will be implemented through any of the elements, but sociologists have been engaged in exploring some specific elements. So in terms of sociologists review we can identify some specific elements like :-
1. organic matter
2. Technical elements
3. cultural elements
4. Psychological factors
5. Economic factors

LIST OF ALL NOTES / PROJECTS : CLICK HERE

1. Organic factors of social change :-

The importance of organic matter as one of the elements of social change cannot be denied. A number of factors have been identified as biological factors in social change. These are population decline - growth due to birth and death and its social consequences, sexual selection etc.

In the judgment of sociologists, the review of social change through population decline - growth is considered very significant. Changes in population size have a variety of effects on social change. This effect is evident especially in the case of conventional financial systems, social behavior, values, customs etc. But population growth is not the last word in social change.

Among the social factors that have influence in controlling population decline are social practices such as polygamy, child marriage, widow marriage, and social activities related to the treatment of diseases, diseases, epidemics, etc.

The main goal of modern society is to control birth and death rates. As a result, the goal of increasing health awareness among the people has been set, along with this, various awareness programs have been adopted to control the birth rate.

2. Technical factors of social change :-

The importance of technological elements in social change is undeniable. Sociologist Professor Kingsley Davis (K. Davis) said that science refers to part of the cultural inheritance of people. It develops coherent knowledge about nature and technology is the practical aspect of this developed knowledge. The concept of technology has been widely accepted in sociology. Here the expected success of technology in social life is highlighted on supporting and changing mental formations and social structures. According to the sociologist Foster, technological progress does not mean only earthly and technological development - it is a special kind of social, cultural and psychological process.

A systematic review of how social change occurs as a result of technology reveals that –
(a) Fundamental changes in the production system are brought about by the impact of technology. The quality and quantity of production also improved.
(b) Industrial as well as agricultural production is also affected by the impact of technology. In a country where parallel progress of agriculture and industry takes place, the change in the socio-economic field of the country is certain.
(c) Due to the impact of technology, daily necessities are easily available. As a result of the use of various technologies in daily life, people's manual labor is reduced, happiness and comfort are increased.
(d) People become involved in and benefit economically when diversified production systems develop.
(e) The spread of technology also changes the relationship between men and women. In recent times, along with the expansion of women's education, the establishment of women's status and empowerment, there have also been various changes and expansions of education about marriage.
(f) The spread of technology is capable of bringing about fundamental changes in human mentality. By this people have become scientific minded and have developed professional mentality.
(g) Technology has also changed the social structure and as a result social life has become almost free of superstitions. A revolutionary change is taking place in the class structure.
(h) The impact of technology is also influencing the functioning of the state. By this the functions of the state have not only changed but also multiplied.

3. Cultural Elements of social change :-

Culture as an integral part of human society is the theoretical creation of man. Culture is the overall identity of human society. This culture is considered to be another underlying factor of social change. In reality culture is not a static thing, but it changes slowly. Culture is realized through people's thoughts, consciousness, sense of justice, and ideal values. When these change, culture also changes. The pace of cultural change is accelerated by the influence of science and technology. Again the effect of cultural change also affects the change of technology.

4. Psychological components of social change :-

Human society is also considered a specific psychological organization. Human psychology operates deeply within the interactions that occur in human society. No change can be considered acceptable in the real sense, unless people accept the change psychologically. Hence the psychological component is identified as the most significant component of social change. Psychological factors work in social change in various ways such as:-
(a) In a real sense people are self-centered, as a result conflicts, discrimination etc. develop in the society. Recent single family formation is a significant aspect of psychological change.
(b) Reciprocity can bring about special psychological changes in society.
(c) People's taste changes with the change of time. As a result, social change is inevitable.
(d) The role of individuals in social change is significant. Their patriotism, ideals, thoughts, etc. spread influence on the psyche of common people, resulting in accelerated psychological change of people.

5. Economic Factors of social change :-

The importance of economic factors in social change is considered significant. Finance is a very necessary organization of the social system. Apart from it, the position of the social system is not thought of. People's behavior, customs etc. have a special influence on the traditional financial system. The influence of this element is observed in the field of cultural life. Eminent social scientist V. Pareto said that economic prosperity and recession play a special role in social change. Again the economic factor depends a lot on other active factors in the society.

So it can be said that social change is a universal phenomenon. Some aspects of the society will change, and some aspects will not change - nothing can be said like this. That is, the entire society is subject to change. But which ones change faster and which ones change more slowly. Various parts of society are interrelated. Multiple factors play a significant role in the transformation of society. These elements are also interrelated.

Role of education in social change.

Education and Social Change

Relation between Education and Social Change.

Education and Social Transformation.

Role of Education in Social Change.

As there is no alternative process to educate the vast masses of the country without the expansion of education; Implementation of democratic ideals is not possible without such an educated public. Every positive step towards democratic ideals ensures change and progress in the social system and social life.

Society and human life are always dynamic and changing. In the course of evolution, human life is changing at every moment. Following that trend, education is also ever-changing, because education, society and human life—every element is interrelated. The seeds of the present are hidden in the education and culture of our past, and the infrastructure of the future is built upon the present. In this case, education helps to build the social structure of the future based on the foundations of the past. Change in society is undoubtedly the result of an evolutionary process and education is one of its means.

Democracy is the ideal of almost every state in the present world and one of the goals of this ideal is to build a class-free, exploitation-free, ideal democratic society. In this type of society education helps the individual to acquire human qualities by imparting higher education to the individual.

John Dewey and Kothari Commission's opinion: - John Dewey considered education as a process of development - growth of each individual on the path directed by society. He thinks that education is the socially directed growth of every person. As we know, education is considered as the main tool to develop every person of the country as a resource. In fact, to strengthen the development of the country and the nation, it is very important to make the environment of modern technology-based agriculture, industry, vehicles, market and transaction healthy and prosperous. In this context, just as science and technology should be used to use all the natural resources of the country appropriately, education infrastructure should be used appropriately for production. In this context, the statement of the Kothari Commission is - Changes in the knowledge, skill, interests and values of the people as a whole.

It is undeniable that along with the change in society, there is a need for change and sophistication in education. If the image of the future social change can be presented to the present generation through education, then their current education can definitely play a role in the future change. To make society fit for future life, it needs to change and reform, and education plays an important role in this change.

How education becomes a tool for social change:-

(a) By making illiterate people literate.
(b) To promote a proper sense of industrialization and urbanization.
(c) Explain the issues related to population growth and the problems related to it.
(d) Conceptualization of country-specific policies in line with population growth.
(e) sets out information regarding determination of the extent of private ownership in addition to state investment.
(f) Globalization, Economic Liberalization, Modernization - etc. by properly presenting the issues.
(g) Plays a major role in the development of social sense, perception and consciousness.

LIST OF ALL NOTES / PROJECTS : CLICK HERE

As a result, education has to highlight the necessary issues of social change by infrastructural and other thematic instructions in educational institutions. Education is the embodiment of social change through cultural revolution. Equality, justice, sense of democracy, universal education, education for expansion of agro-industry, education for population control suitable for economic development, research-oriented education for development of scientific and technical skills, education for adaptation and adaptation to social change - all these issues are spread through education for social change.

Finally it can be said that education as a valuable tool for social change -
(1) Embraces cultural values and thus takes initiatives to preserve culture and sustain society.
(2) outlines the political context of the new society.
(3) Explains changes in social norms, restrictions and other rules.
(4) Transmits and circulates the religious sentiments and perceptions of the future in the masses.
(5) The future society can adopt different steps of social change embodying various socio-political developmental trends.

Again, no one can deny the need to create appropriate and qualified human resources through education to transform the people's appropriate knowledge, skills, interests and values. That is why the Kothari Commission's recommendation has rightly said that "The development of human resources through a properly organized program of education" is very necessary for proper and necessary change in the society.

Education and social change have a two way traffic.
- Kothari Commission.

"Education is expected to change the attitude and values among people and create in them a desire for progress."
- Kothari Commission.

Definition and features of Social Change :-

What is Social Change ? Discuss the features of social change.

Meaning of Social Change.

Characteristics od Social Change.

Definition and Concept of Social Change :-

The term change is multidimensional. Change refers to changing goals, skills, philosophies, beliefs and behaviors. Again change means "introduction of new". Social change refers to changes in the structure and functioning of human society. Social change refers to certain changing activities that bring about changes in the form and structure of society as a whole. This change is observed individually. The term social change is used to refer to variation and change in any aspect of social processes, social interaction and social organization.

According to McIver and Page, society is a chronology of life flows. The concept of society is dynamic, not static. Society is a process, not an outcome. Because human society is changing, modern society has evolved from primitive society to modern society. In the context of social change, McIver and Page mention three conditions, based on which society changes. For example, -
(i) Man-made changes in the environment and society.
(ii) Change in people's thoughts and beliefs and
(iii) Physical changes.

Depending on these three conditions, technological change, culture change and bio-physical change occur respectively. Society is not an object, society is a network of mutual relations between people. The dynamism observed in human interpersonal relationships, therefore brings about social change. Society is a neutral, influential, ongoing stream. The influence of society is transmitted from generation to generation. According to Sri Aurobindo, in the continuous flow of time and society, at the end of each night, at each new dawn, each past day dies and a new day is born.

Today's society is a modified version of the social system of thousands of years ago. The pace of time and the course of evolution have brought great changes in the external and internal nature of society. This change will continue in the future.

Characteristics / Features of social change:-

Among the characteristic features observed in social change, the most important are:-

(i) Social change is social in nature :-
Social change means a change in the pattern of social relations. Social relations are defined in terms of social action, social interaction and social organization. By altering these three changes, new civilizations emerge, in which the essence of the old remains. That is, social change is distinct from individual change. Both its cause and effect are social in nature.

(ii) Social change is universal :-
Social change is present in all types of societies at all times. No society is completely immobile. Society, whether old or new, urban or rural, simple or complex, agrarian or industrial, is always changing. This change can be fast or slow; But in reality there is no society without motion.

(iii) The stream of social change is unbroken :-
Social change is not constant, it is continuous. The flow of change never stops and society cannot be kept away from change. It is a seamless running method. The source, direction, rate and nature of change only change over time, but do not stop.

(iv) Social change is inevitable :-
Social change is inevitable. New needs, trying to bring change, these are human instincts. Human needs are unlimited and they change with time. To meet those needs, social change becomes inevitable.

(v) Social change is temporary :-
Any particular social change is temporary. Change in any object or event takes time. In some cases the results of a social change are seen quickly, while in other cases it takes ages to get the intended results from a particular social state. Similarly, some social changes spread quickly, while others quickly fade into memory. This is true of revolutions, styles, customs, and culture.

LIST OF ALL NOTES / PROJECTS : CLICK HERE

(vi) Social change is not homogeneous :-
Although social change occurs throughout time, its rate or speed is not always the same. Its rates vary from one society to another and even within the context of the same society at different times. Sometimes this rate is very fast, sometimes slow. This speed depends on the nature of the society. For example, open and closed societies have different rates of change of the same type. Again, there are differences in the rates of change in urban and rural areas. This difference is also present in modern or archaic societies.

(vii) Social change can be both planned and unplanned :-
In some cases, social change is planned, in some cases it can be unplanned. The changes that naturally occur in society are really unplanned. These unplanned changes are spontaneous, sudden, or the result of an impulsive decision. Usually the changes brought about by natural disasters like floods, droughts, famines, eruptions etc. are unplanned. Humans have no control over the rate and direction of these unplanned social changes.

It is human nature to desire change. So in many cases any plan or activity is adopted by the people with the purpose of bringing about the desired change in the society. These are planned changes. Because they are conscious and intentional, humans have control over the direction and speed of such changes in most cases. An example can be said about the planned social change is the various five-year plans adopted by the government of our country.

(viii) Social change is multi - causal :-
Social change may be influenced by one particular factor, but in reality it is related to many other similar factors. Structural, biological, demographic, cultural, technological etc. many other factors give rise to change through interaction. The reason for this is the interdependence of social events.

(ix) Sources of gradual feedback :-
Since the various parts of society are closely related to each other, any social change tends to produce a series of interrelated reactions rather than a single reaction. For example, women's economic independence in society does not only change their position; At the same time home, environment, family relations, marital relations - all these areas also bring many changes.

(x) Predictions of social change are uncertain :-
Advocacy has a special importance in social change. But the predictions that can be made on this subject are full of uncertainty. There are three main reasons for this.
(a) Social change does not follow any fixed principle.
(b) Causes of social change do not remain in the same state for eternity. And
(c) The course of social change is not uniform in all areas.

Apart from the above it can be said that the nature of social change is sometimes qualitative or quantitative. Since it does not give rise to any sense of good or bad, intended or unintended, it is a matter without definite value. It is related to evolution, improvement and development but is distinct from these concepts.

Educational Sociology : Concept and definition , Nature , Scope , Functions and importance

Educational Sociology :

1. Concept and definition ,
2. Nature ,
3. Scope ,
4. Functions
5. Importance

1. Concept of Educational Sociology :-

Education is the process of a student's healthy and proper adaptation to the social environment. One of the main elements of this social environment is people. Each person in society learns to understand through mutual understanding and through that understanding develops his sense. Through the mutual understanding of society and individuals, a specific agenda and subjective knowledge is established, which is called Educational Sociology.

Education and Sociology are two different subjects. However, not all modern sociologists have emphasized the distinction between sociology of education and educational sociology. Those who treat the two as separate, point out the difference only on the basis of importance.

In the late 19th century, three different directions of the study which education and sociology started together can be seen under three different names, -
(i) Sociological Foundation of Education,
(ii) Educational Sociology and
(iii) Sociology of Education.

According to various sociologists, the definition of educational society is the application of general principles and conclusions of sociology to the administration and process of education. According to this orientation, sociological principles are applied by treating education as a distinct social unit.

Professor Taylor (W Taylor) thinks that the first of these two orientations gives its sociological interpretation with emphasis on various aspects of the educational process. And the second focuses on how sociological processes work in education. That is, in the case of the first, educational sociology is its background and sociology of education is the main subject of practice; Education is his research. A similar distinction has been made by R J Stalcup and J E Jensen.

Professor Brown says educational sociology helps to understand the inseparable relationship between the individual and society.

According to Cook & Cook, educational sociology requires sociological knowledge and techniques to solve various problems of worldly content and human relations.

Thus educational sociology is a special aspect of sociology as a whole which deals with the structural and dynamic aspects of the educational process in the social context.

For this , sociology has provided the theory and data and pedagogy has provided the policy and strategy. The combined flow of these two has created educational sociology.

As a result, society, class, people, home to school, school to university and people's workplace are all bound in a balanced bond and justice and fairness, judicial system, equal rights, equal opportunities and mutual harmony are established in the society.
